The Aurelius Family, a noble house residing in the capital city of Garlemald, was renowned as a military family, every Patriarch had served in some capacity either as Magitek Engineer or an Officer. The custom was that the old son would serve as an Officer until such time that they were made the Head of the House.Raised in a strict environment, Lionel’s younger days were spent training in all manner of weaponry from Gunblades to Daggers to Bare Hands. Lionel trained hard and was considered an adept fighter in his own right before he joined the Garlean Navy at the age of 18.While serving as an Ensign, Lionel made a reputation as a stoic and intelligent officer especially when engaging with the Limsan Navy, while victories were scarce due to the lack of funding, Lionel’s name grew among the soldiers as an officer who put the lives of his fellow soldiers above everything, after all, you can’t have victory if everyone is dead.Despite the grumblings of the militaries higher echelons, Lionel continued to serve for 20 years until he was made Legatus of the 9th Legion. His time as a high ranked officer was short lived, after two years as Legatus, Lionel abandoned Garlemald as his time within the military had disillusioned him, realizing that he couldn’t go home and understanding that his pure-blood heritage would likely be met with violence in any Eorzean city, he did the only thing he could, He commandeered his military vessel with mutiny, stranding some of the soldiers on a small island in the Bounty and taking the rest as his crew and thus becoming Pirates.
